Here are a few tips from us and other FMCA members about staying weather aware while you are living in your RV.
We personally have experienced tornado watches and warnings in our RV.? Our current RV weighs est. 31,000 pounds so it isn’t going to move with normal winds.? However, we have seen what tornadoes can do, and they should be taken very seriously.?? It is a matter of life or death.? Your motor home may be heavy, but that tree you are parked next to might not make it.
DON’T TAKE CHANCES !
We have a weather app on our smart phones that can pick up emergency broadcasts as we are travelling.? It also shows the radar weather.? We were travelling through a state when a tornado warning was heard, and the weather was very bad.?? Many drivers had pulled off the interstate along with us to look for shelter.?? We saw a brick motel office that we went into to wait for the storm to blow over.? Before we had a smart phone, we would bring along a storm weather alert radio and program it for the area we were staying.
We have seen some campgrounds that provide instructions on what to do in the event of severe weather ( location of shelters, etc. ).???? – Tony Trimarco FMCA
As full time RV’ers, we monitor the weather while travelling or staying at a campground by using NOAA weather radio.( http://radar.weather.gov/).?? You can pull up any area in the country and zero in on a specific area.? By clicking the loop, it will show the radar in motion and any bad weather that may be moving in.?? We also keep track of the name of the county we are travelling through as well so we are aware if the warning affects us.
